Early education and teaching experiences in Portland, Tennessee

Mrs. Nellie Yokely interviews Mr. Mitchell and Mrs. Marie Moore. "Miss Marie" was a beloved teacher in Portland. She began teaching at Sumner County High School in 1915 and taught for many years, then substitute taught after that. She married Mr. Mitchell in 1916. He was on the Sumner County School Board for 15 years. (The pictures are of Miss Moore in her classroom and Mr. Mitchell as a young man in the band.)
